01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Burdock-tempura udon pairs the vegetable’s crisp bite with broth enriched by the dashi released from the fried burdock. The shop’s menu notes that dashi is prepared from the morning to bring out its aroma. One diner also recalled soft, light noodles and a gently flavoured broth. The menu includes meat and burdock-tempura udon, as well as chicken-tempura udon. Bukkake udon, served hot or cold, offers a different way to enjoy the noodles from a bowl centred on broth.

Kashiwa meshi is another option alongside a bowl of udon. One diner said that having it with kake udon brought back memories of their home in Fukuoka; others have enjoyed it at the end of a meal. It is a fitting pairing with Hakata-style udon. The small, counter-focused shop serves drinks and snacks as well as udon. During one evening meal, a diner enjoyed whale sashimi, straw-seared fare and hanpen before choosing mentaiko udon, then finished with kashiwa rice.

For a final bowl after drinks, there is also a mini burdock-tempura udon. The listed menu gives a price of 300 yen for after-drinks orders only. It can be paired with shochu highballs, whisky highballs or a lemon-flavoured drink, making the shop an option for a meal or a light drink in the evening. It is open into the early morning on many days, which may suit anyone looking for a late-night meal or a bowl after a night out.
